Gangrape in Kolkata Law College: Has West Bengal Forgotten the Legacy of Its Heroes?
🕯️ West Bengal: The Land of Legends Now Tarnished by Crime
West Bengal—once the land of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Khudiram Bose, and Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar—is today grappling with a dark transformation. A state that once ignited the fires of revolution and reform is now witnessing headlines that no freedom fighter would have imagined: brutal gangrapes, political exploitation, and justice delayed.

The recent Gangrape in Kolkata Law College has shaken the moral foundations of Bengal. A 24-year-old law student—one of the many torchbearers of tomorrow—was allegedly raped, filmed, and blackmailed by a student leader and two senior students inside her own college campus.
What kind of Bengal have we become?
💔 Netaji Gave Us Courage—We Now Need It to Demand Justice:
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose once said, “Give me blood, and I will give you freedom.”
But today, the blood of Bengal’s daughters is being spilled—not for freedom, but from fear, betrayal, and systemic failure.
The accused in the Gangrape in Kolkata Law College case include a former student leader of the Trinamool Congress student wing (TMCP), and two active students of South Calcutta Law College. The survivor says she begged, resisted, and even touched the feet of the main accused, Monojit Mishra, asking him to let her go.
She was locked inside the college, raped while the others watched, and filmed as a tool for silence.
🗣️ Khudiram Bose Died at 18 for Justice. Today, 18-Year-Olds Are Silencing Justice:
Khudiram Bose embraced martyrdom at the age of 18 fighting colonial oppression. Today, Bengal’s youth—once symbols of activism and change—are in headlines for Gangrape in Kolkata Law College, violence, and political intimidation.
The survivor in this case says she was coerced to “prove loyalty” to the TMCP unit. She was not only attacked physically, but mentally broken, as her political loyalty was questioned like a test of worthiness.
This is not politics. This is psychological warfare.
📚 Vidyasagar Taught Us to Respect Women—Have We Forgotten?
Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar reformed Bengal’s thinking with education, morality, and a vision for women’s dignity. He fought for widow remarriage and female education in a time when women were voiceless.
Now, in the very institutions meant to empower young women, crimes like the Gangrape in Kolkata Law College are being reported.
The survivor wasn’t a victim of just three men. She was failed by:
The college authorities, who allegedly ignored safety.
The political system, that remained silent.
The society, that needs to rise beyond hashtags and demand structural change.
🔥 West Bengal Must Choose: Legacy or Letdown after Gangrape in Kolkata Law College?
Do we want to be remembered as the land of:
Netaji and resistance, or of silence and suppression?
Khudiram and sacrifice, or of opportunism and abuse?
Vidyasagar and vision, or of apathy and violence?
Today’s Bengal must answer this.
🗓️ Final Words: This Is Not Just a Crime, It’s a Collapse of Values
The Gangrape in Kolkata Law College is more than an isolated incident. It is a national shame, a local failure, and a call to conscience.
This is not about politics. This is about our daughters, our campuses, our dignity.
Digital Preeyam News stands with the survivor and demands:
✅ Swift and impartial justice
✅ Zero political shielding of the accused
✅ Reforms in campus safety and student body accountability
📢 Stay Awake. Stay Angry. Stay Human.
📍 West Bengal must rise—not just to remember its past, but to protect its future.
